YouTuber Amorica, the Womb of the Free has returned with another vintage Black Crowes release. The latest footage comes from November 1st, 1996 at the Beacon Theater.

While the show is excellent, the highlight of the show is Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule bassist Allen Woody hopping on stage and playing the mandolin on “Boomer’s Story” at the 1:10:15 mark of the show.

Watch the Black Crowes Smokin’ Show at the Beacon Back in ’95 – 3/22/1995 Full Show Video

2020 was supposed to be a big year for the beleaguered blues rock legends, The Black Crowes. After an extended hiatus and feud between brothers Rich and Chris Robinson, the band looked to be on the mend and gearing up for a big tour. Unfortunately the reunion ended prematurely with the pandemic. Luckily, the Crowes are scheduled to resume their tour this June.

Until then YouTuber Amorica – Womb of the Free has been steadily uploading a stream of great footage from archival Crowes shows. The footage are matched with fantastic audio sources and have been meticulously time-stamped. These are some A+ boots!

One of the latest shows up on the channel is from the Crowes’ stop at the Beacon Theater back in March of 1995. After a brief acoustic opener, the Robinson brothers got to work with an electrifying set. The footage starts at the third song in the show. Check out the nearly flawless “Thorn in My Pride.”

Watch Gov’t Mule and Audley Freed’s Spaced Out “Maggot Brain” in Jamaica

After a phenomenal night one in Jamaica, Gov’t Mule continued to bring the fire at Island Exodus on night two. Audley Freed, former lead guitarist for the Black Crowes reunited with Gov’t Mule again for some classic covers.

As with night one, Mule crammed some of the most epic and massive classic rock covers into the two sets including the Allman Brothers Band’s “Kind of Bird,” Zeppelin’s “No Quarter,” the Dead’s “Shakedown Street” and Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey” among others.

Another one of the great jams from night two was Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain” which featured spaced out jams punctuated by soaring guitar solos from Freed and Uncle Warren.

Instant Classic: Listen to Gov’t Mule & Friends Pay Tribute to Allen Woody in Nashville – 8/26/2017 Full Show AUD

Gov’t Mule, specifically Warren Haynes, is no stranger to losing friends. After an emotional roller coaster this year from losing Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman, among others, Gov’t Mule reopened old wounds over the weekend at their show in Nashville. August 26th marked the 17th anniversary of Allman Brothers Band bassist and Gov’t Mule founding member, Allen Woody. The Mule wouldn’t let the day go by without drawing attention to their fallen brother.

Just as they did last summer, Blackberry Smoke has opened for Gov’t Mule a few shows this summer include the Nashville gig.

Things started to get interesting about halfway through the set. The first surprise of the set was former Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman and guitarist Audley Freed for the Crowes classic “Sometimes Salvation.”

Next up, former Allman Brothers Band guitarist and fellow bandmate of Haynes and Woody, Jack Pearson was welcomes to the stage for the dueling guitar masterpiece “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” Mule closed the set out with another Allman Brothers Band original and Warren Haynes favorite, “Soulshine.”

For the encore, Warren welcomed back out Pearson and Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke for “Melissa > Mountain Jam > Melissa.” The encore was similar to what they played at the Peach festival just last weekend, but the cast of characters had changed.

Listen to Magpie Salute Jam on Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black Crowes Tunes in Chicago-7/28/2017 Full Show AUD

The Black Crowes reincarnated, a.k.a. The Magpie Salute, headed by Rich Robinson have embarked on a massive North American tour last week. The new(ish) band sports members of The Black Crowes including Rich Robinson, guitarist Marc Ford and bassist Sven Pipien. The Salute is rounded out by drummer Joe Magistro and guitarist Nico Bereciartua and a fine cast of vocalists, including lead singer John Hogg (Hookah Brown, Moke), former Crowes singer Charity White and background singers, Adrien Reju and Katrine Ottosen.

The Magpie Salute kicked off their North American tour with a two night run at the Metro in Chicago after a show in Indianapolis. The massive tour is in support of the new self-titled album that TMS put out in June.

The Salute sported a new format with two sets of electric tunes bookending an intimate acoustic set. The first set included a number of TMS originals and a spot-on cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Custard Pie” to top off the set.

The acoustic set gave Rich and Marc the opportunity to flex their guitar skills on tunes like “Wiser Time.”

The second electric set featured more Magpie originals including the short, but rocking single off the new album “Omission.” TMS finished off the set with two tunes that were in regular rotation in Crowes shows—”Sometime’s Salvation” and “Twice as Hard.”

Chris Robinson can cry all he wants—Magpie Salute is the real deal and I for one, am looking to this tour!
