Our We Will Get By Streaming Tour is nearing it’s end. The second to last stop is in Vancouver, British Columbia at the Trips Festival.

The PNE Auditorium in Vancouver was the home to the three-day Trips Festival. The festival headliners included a Janis-fronted Big Brother and the Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Daily Flash and of course the good ‘ol Grateful Dead. This early Dead recording has plenty of rarities and soon-to-be classics. Unfortunately the recording gets cut in the middle of “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.”

Listen to the Grateful Dead’s Set at the NY State Pavilion on This Day in 1969 – 7/11/1969 Soundboard

Our next stop on the We Will Get By Streaming Tour is the NY State Pavilion in the summer of 1969. The Dead played a run of shows in Flushing Meadows on the 11th and 12th and shared the bill with Joe Cocker.

Their set on the 11th came on the heels of the Dead’s appearance on Playboy After Dark where they famously dosed the punch at the party. The show itself is a great representation of early Grateful Dead—raw, brimming with energy, and bluesy.

While this recording has it’s warts, it’s pretty good as far as 1969 recordings go. Some highlights and notables about this show include the final “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” until 1977, Jerry jumping on the pedal steel guitar for “Dire Wolf” and “Silver Threads” and a spectacular “Death Don’t Have No Mercy.”

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead is back with another installment of RAD Night in America. This week’s stream is vintage JRAD—New Years Day, 2016 at the Capitol Theatre.

After ringing in the new year in Philly, JRAD headed North to the Capitol Theatre for a New Years run. Given that this was early in JRAD’s history, the show included seven, yep seven, debuts!

Listen to Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s Second Show at the Cap – 2/22/2020 AUD

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to the Cap last night for the second of their three night run last night. On night one, JRAD jammed on Radiohead and opened with a monster “Shakedown Street.”

On the second night, JRAD jammed on some classics and dug deep into blues and Dead territory. Russo kicked off the evening with the early Grateful Dead tune “Sitting on Top of the World,” and jammed on the Dylan tune from Blonde on Blonde “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.”

JRAD returned with a vengeance in the second set. Check out the face-melting guitar work on “Jack Straw.”

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends’ Show at Terrapin Crossroads – 6/12/2016 Soundboard

While Dead and Company was melting faces at Bonnaroo, Phil Lesh and Friends played the decidedly more laid back Terrapin Crossroads venue but still put on a hell of a show.

Phil, proprietor of Terrapin Crossroads has created a training ground for the next emissaries of the Dead’s music. This round of students included Teresa Williams, Larry Campbell, Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson, and Jason Crosby. Most notable are the Dickinson brothers who make up the better part of the North Mississippi Allstars.

In an unusual move, Phil played with this group of friends for the first two sets and then brought out a second line-up for the next set. The third set was from one of Phil’s favorite 1988 shows and unfortunately hasn’t surfaced…. yet.
