The world lost a great singer and spirit a couple of weeks ago when Sharon Jones lost her battle to pancreatic cancer. A lot of archival performances of hers have been popping up on YouTube and eTree. This one was just shared yesterday by KEXP on YouTube.
KEXP is a radio station out of Seattle that shares lots of great studio performances from today’s hottest rock and indie bands. The station moved to a new building earlier this year and invited Sharon and the Dap Kings to perform at the grand opening. Trading in the smokey, dimly lit club for a day-time affair, you can study and see Sharon Jones in her element. Her showmanship and energy she brings to the stage reminds me of a B.B. King in his prime.
Sharon and the Dap Kings play a short, but packed 30 minute set. They kick off with one of my favorite tunes, “100 Days, 100 Nights.”
Thanks again to KEXP for sharing the performance!
