It’s Friday and that means that Shakedown Stream is back with another Grateful Dead concert. Much to our chagrin, Shakedown Stream will reportedly become more infrequent than weekly as it has been.
This week’s stream brings us to Brent Mydland’s last tour during the summer of 1990. The Dead rolled into Tinley Park right outside of Chicago to play three nights at the World Amphitheatre, with the run kicking off on 7/21.
The highlight to look out on this one is Brent’s solo during the first set “Friend of the Devil.”

Thanks to the Phil Lesh, at 79 years young has opted to jam more with his family and friends in recent years. Last night, Phil reunited with friends new and old for a headlining two-set slot at The Peach Festival. Phil’s crew included Warren Haynes, John Scofield, Holly Bowling, Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck. This marks the second time that Phil and Uncle Warren jammed this week. Phil’s and Phriends’ set included some choice covers including Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love,” Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower,” Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” and Traffic’s “The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.” The supergroup also jammed on a whole lot of Dead. Set One: Set Two: Encore: 07 Patchwork Quilt Thanks to Keith Litzenberger for the recording. Photo credit: livemusiclover1 While everyone was busy with their April Fools pranks, Phil Lesh and Friends treated San Rafael to a free show at the Terrapin Crossroads Backyard. The free show entitled Songs to Phil the Air included one set and clocked in around 1:45 with 12 songs. Phil’s lineup included Stu Allen, Scott Guberman and Cass McCombs. In addition to tunes from the Grateful Dead catalogue, Phil shared some familiar covers including Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and The Beatles’ “Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds.” Setlist The recording is really remarkable given the outdoor venue can get quite windy. Thanks to unbrchn for the great recording! Photo credit: justaguyonabike If you ever have heard Grateful Dead classics like “Black-Throated Wind,” “Hell in a Bucket,” “Picasso Moon,” “Mexicali Blues,” “I Need a Miracle,” “Estimated Prophet,” or “Looks Like Rain” you have heard some of John Perry Barlow’s lyrics. Grateful Dead lyrics are just one item on Barlow’s resume which also includes Wyoming cattle rancher, a Fellow at Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society and co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Barlow, in serious medical condition, is in need of financial support to pay his medical bills. Promoter and Brooklyn Bowl founder, Peter Shapiro organized an all-star concert to celebrate Barlow’s contribution to the Grateful Dead legacy and raise money for his medical costs. The Terrapin Family Band served as the evening’s house band with an ever rotating cast of guests. Here is the setlist: Set One: Set Two: Encore: * w/ Jon Graboff – Pedal Steel Guitar Thanks to Eric McRoberts for the soundboard matrix great recording. While the show from Saturday night got some mixed reviews, the consensus of Sunday’s night show is that it was a barn-burner. Melvin and the rest of Phil’s friends brought their A-game for the the final show of their May 2016 Capitol Theater run. Set setlist includes a lot of Dead tunes of course, but also some more Warren Haynes picks like “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “A Whiter Shade of Pale.” Sunday nights’ Phil and Friends lineup included Phil Lesh, Melvin Seals, Tony Leone, Alex Koford, Eric Krasno and Warren Haynes.
