Listen to Dead and Company’s Final Summer 2016 Show in Mountainview – 7/30/2016 HD Audio Capture

Dead and Company ended their Summer 2016 tour on a high note in Mountainview, CA. The show started off with a Help on the Way into Slipknot and then the boys threw everyone a curveball with Shakedown. Then Dead & Co launched into Cassidy which was one of the highlights of the evening. After a SOTM, Me and My Uncle and Brown Eyed Women they finally dropped Franklin’s Tower. Wow.

The second set felt like a late 60s show with Dark Star > Saint Stephen > The Eleven Jam > Saint Stephen to kick it off. Then they busted out some crowd favorites with Terrapin and one final Eyes of the World.

Deadhead and NBA HOFer Bill Walton made a surprise guest appearance on Drums during the second set. The night ended with a two-song encore including Brokedown Palace. What a beautiful end to a beautiful tour.

I can’t help but get a little sad that the tour is over, but Reddit user deadin_tx put things into perspective:

Tours end and tours begin. Thank the universe we have about 20 fine shows to dissect and discuss and then we get more dates. It’s the cycle of life in this community, but it keeps our souls yearning for that show, that run, that tour.

Instant Classic: Listen to Dead and Company’s Blazing First Show at Fenway – 7/15/2016 HD Audio Capture

Dead and Company started their two night run at historic Fenway Park in Boston last night. The special venue made for an oh-so special show. The boys treated Boston to one of their best shows of the tour.

Luckily John’s guitar playing was just as bold as his fashion sense. Mayer and the boys were on fire. This crew is turning out to be among the best post-Jerry ensembles we have ever seen. As Reddit user jaghutgathos said:

It took Bobby 20 years to get “his” band done proper. This is it. He’s out of Jerry’s shadow now. As leader of the band. Not just any band, but a smoking fucking band that can bring it night after night & brings freshness to the catalog.

Some of the highlights include a first set Help > Slip > Frank and the entire fricking second set.

Listen to Dead and Company’s First Alpine Valley Show – 7/9/2016 HD Audio Capture

Dead and Company started off their first of two shows in Elkhorn, WI with a huge bang. The first set included a long-overdue Dire Wolf, which was a tour debut. Bobby, Mayer and the rest of the boys were on their A-game the entire set.

The second set featured another sublime Eyes of the World which kicked off a massive jam that ultimately concluded with a Help-Slip-Frank. Wow.

Add the Dylan classic “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” for an encore and you have another hell of a show.

Listen to Dead and Company’s Second Night at Citi Field in NYC – 6/26/2016 Soundboard Quality

After a monster night one, Dead and Company took to the stage at Citi Field to complete their first run of the tour. Donna returned to play more tunes on stage with the band, as she did the night before.

As the tour goes on, Mayer is seemingly gaining confidence and superpowers. I have been re-listening to the shows from this run and rediscovered the absolutely insane Viola Lee Blues from Bristow. Night two at Citi Field showed John experimenting with different teases throughout the night whether it was Coltrane or Hendrix. We are witnessing John Mayer at the absolute top of his game.

Night two had a couple of tour debuts like The Eleven Jam and Samson and Delilah.

Instant Classic: Watch Dead and Company Melt Faces at Bonnaroo 2016 – Full Show

Update: Here is an audio recording that sounds a little better than the video posted by Quinfolk!

While their tour opened officially in Charlotte on the 10th and unofficially in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago, Bonnaroo was quite possibly the largest stage that Dead and Company has shared to date. Dead and Co played two full sets to close out Bonnaroo 2016, which is rare for Bonnaroo which has a zillion acts and time is precious.

Dead and Co’s two sets were chalked full of favorites and really displayed a band that is comfortable and ready to explore new ground. Notable breakouts were Smokestack Lightning and Shakedown Street in the first set and entire second set. Holy shit. The boys launched the second set with Help>Slip>Frank and then launched right into Scar>Fire with none other than Donna Godchaux! The entire show is straight fire, but this second set is something special.

It’s performances like this one that will birth a whole new generations of Deadheads. Thanks for keeping the music alive and well!
