Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends’ Finale at the Capitol Theater – 3/17/2017 Full Show AUD

Phil Lesh and Friends finished up their three night run at the Capitol Theater last night. As Z-man said, the line-up grew in strength every night and really started to gel by the end of the run.

In addition to plenty of Dead tunes, Phil and the gang covered Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing.”

While John Kadlecik is a familiar face and sound on stage, Stanley Jordan might not be to a lot of Deadheads. The prodigious jazz guitarist has been on the scene since releasing his first album back in 1982. Jordan’s style of guitar playing is like no other. Instead of picking or strumming, Stanley uses a two-handing tap touch technique that really needs to be seen. The result is a soft but masterful sound.

For the final night of the run, the Cap was bathed in beautiful Phil Lesh themed art and photos. The artwork was projected on the walls of the theater.

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends Perform ‘American Beauty’ & ‘Workingman’s Dead’ at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas – 1/20/2017 Full Show HD Audio

Phil Lesh and Friends kicked off a three-night run at the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas. It’s been rare to see Phil perform outside of Terrapin Crossroads or the Capitol Theater in a while, so the change of scenery was exciting in and of itself.

The big attraction to this opening show though was Phil recreated the two of the best known Grateful Dead albums, back to back. American Beauty and Workingman’s Dead contain so many classics, it’s hard to pick out the highlights from the albums, because literally every song is a classic to Deadheads.

What’s really remarkable about these albums is that they mark one of the most fruitful recording periods of the Dead’s career. Workingman’s Dead was released on June 14, 1970 and less than 5 months later, American Beauty was released on November 1. Both albums went on to go platinum and have songs that are played at nearly every dead show since then.

Phil’s line-up for the show included the better-half of Chris Robinson Brotherhood including guitarist/vocalist Chris Robinson, guitarist Neal Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall and drummer Tony Leone as well as guitarist Ross James. This lineup is especially potent with Chris Robinson and Neal Casal who are Grateful Dead members in another dimension of space and time.

Listen to Dead and Company’s Wheatland Show – 7/29/2016 HD Audio Capture

Dead and Company’s penultimate 2016 summer tour show was another winner. When a show starts off with Uncle John’s Band, you know you’re in for a good night. And what a great UJB it was!

With all the songs that Dead & Co played this summer, John Mayer has found own voice. He has continued to amaze me with the heights and energy he puts into every song, night after night.

Other than the mellow, but beautiful UJB, my favorite tune of the evening was the Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance to kick off the second set. Dead & Co has done an amazing job with this two-song combo all tour long – this is another great take.

Listen to Dead and Company’s Show at The Gorge – 7/23/2016 HD Audio Capture

Dead and Company continued their west coast assault at arguably the most beautiful venue in the U.S. – The Gorge in Gorge, WA. Dead & Co treated fans to an equally beautiful night of Dead.

The highlights of the night include a smoking Brown Eyed Women, Cumberland Blues and the Oteil special – Eyes of the World.

It’s sad to think that we only have a week left of Dead and Company before the tour ends 😥
